FOR FANS OF:
Love, The Coral, Michael Head/Shack, Tom Waits, Teardrop Explodes
Having created "magical worlds" (Mojo Magazine) with their debut album, 'Spring Tide', Liverpool-based band The Shipbuilders return with 'Daydreaming', the lead single for their upcoming second album 'This Blue Earth'.
Released via the band's own label Shipwrecked Records on March 21st, the song is a distillation of what makes the band so unique - and hard to define.
Having previously been described as "...spaghetti Western with a Liverpool jangle and surf-noir-shanty..." (Chris Hawkins, 6Music) and "expertly fusing the genius of Morricone and Moroder to create upbeat Western-inspired indie with just a hint of disco..." (Bido Lito!), 'Daydreaming' packs the punch of the band's previous output, whilst displaying a growth in confidence and expansion of their signature sound.
Inspired by the eerie other-worlds of Tom Waits and early Coral, the song is propelled by an urgent rhythm with a dual guitar and trumpet refrain that recalls the chaotic melodies of The Pogues and Teardrop Explodes.
Across the track, sounds come and go, vanishing as soon as they appear; chain-gang hollers, drunken haunted piano and tremulous guitars appear from the ether before dissipating, as the song rollocks along to a climatic finish.

Of the song, singer/songwriter Matty Loughlin-Day says;
"The song was written many moons ago, during a period of heartbreak and dislocation; the myth of King Midas' secrets being betrayed by the whispering green grass and a general mistrust of everything around you matched the mood of the moment and this came together in 'Daydreaming' very quickly. The song has had more than a few incarnations, but it was never fully ready until Pistol Pete Higham joined the band; his trumpet line changed everything and opened the song up in a way we'd been trying to do for years but never knew quite how. Working with Danny Woodward (Producer), we explored every nook and cranny of the song, not wanting anything to be predictable, repetitive or boring, which we achieved - and given that there are only two chords in the whole song, that's no mean feat..."
The song is released digitally via Shipwrecked Records, with a very limited run of hand-cut 7" vinyl available via the label's Bandcamp and Patreon pages.
The single precedes the release of the upcoming album 'This Blue Earth' and the band have several tour dates for 2025 confirmed, with more to be announced immintently
